Gordon entered the Montane Spine Race to raise awareness of and raise funds for CALM, The Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM), a movement against male suicide. When asked about training for the race she said, “The build up was hard. There was a lot riding on this, so I tried to put a lot of training in but it’s difficult to train when it’s coming up to Christmas and you’ve got your family. I missed some sessions and there was a lot of guilt there.” Her race was not easy in the least. “I twisted my ankle early on and it was one drama after another from there. My ankle, my toe, my tendon, a chest infection, borderline hyperthermia. I just went checkpoint to check point wondering what would happen next. Still, the course is beautiful and the support on the race is fantastic.shelli gordon spine race | montane When asked if she’d ever thought she wouldn’t make it, Shelli quickly answered, simply, “No.” Gordon was asked if she’d heard about Jasmin Paris’ performance? She replied, “Yes, it’s fantastic! I’m just glad I finished in the same month as her. It opens the sport up to other women who might have thought…Well I’ve got children and work… but she’s breast-feeding and she’s smashed the record to bits and beaten all the men. It’s unbelievable!” Her initial fundraising target was £1.4k and as of tonight, she has actually raised more than £20k. In the women’s race, Gabriele Kenkenburg (DE) is in third place with only 3 miles to the finish. Emiko Kawakami (JPN) has so far covered 233 miles and is on to finish in fourth position. spine race day 7 | montane In the Men’s race there have been 21 finishers but 52 competitors remain on the course tonight.
