How to wash a rucksack, backpack, or waistpack

Cleaning your equipment is a simple yet effective process, but following a few simple rules will ensure its longevity and performance.

We provide care labels on all of our products and recommend you refer to these ahead of your first wash. Improper care can compromise breathability, water repellency, and overall product durability.

Cleaning your Pack

Many of our pack styles have a Polygiene anti-odour technology applied, which inhibits the growth of odour-causing bacteria and microbes. This technology helps our packs to require less washing.

When a wash is needed, we recommend that you keep it simple and just wipe the pack down with a damp sponge or cloth, or using a brush sparingly so you don't harm any protective coating on the pack.

Afterwards, hang the pack to dry somewhere shaded indoors or outdoors. Direct sunlight could cause damage to the fabric coating.

FAQs

Can you put a rucksack in the washing machine?

Due to the trim components used on Montane backpacks, we do not recommend washing your pack in a washing machine or placing a pack in a dryer.

How can I protect my pack from the elements?

We recommend in adverse weather protecting your pack with a waterproof cover. These are available from Montane in two sizes - large and small.
